M's Medley

One of my dearest friends, M, is a new mom with a need for new books. M is a fascinating mix of snarky, sweet, hilarious, artsy, dark, intelligent, and all around incredible. Based on her preferences, I'm coming up with a few recommendations. Have any to offer?

There are others, namely quite a few from Margaret Atwood, but I know M. has already read them, so I'm leaving them off here.
I did a little research, so some of these I haven't read but they look interesting enough that I'm adding them to my to-read list.

Dystopian after the world has ended stuff
Maze Runner - James Dashner
Ready Player One - Ernest Cline
Divergent - Veronica Roth (I haven't read this, though people seem to like it.)
The City of Ember - Jeanne DuPrau (haven't read this either)
Blindness - Jose Saramago

Teenage girls and their problems

The Age of Miracles - Karen Walker Thompson
The Adoration of Jenna Fox - Mary Pearson (haven't read)
Prep - Curtis Sittenfeld

Conspiracies

The Submission - Amy Waldman
I really can't think of any!

Funny memoirs

Year of Living Biblically - A.J. Jacobs
Is Everyone Hanging out Without Me? - Mindy Kaling

Sort of science fictiony
Alif the Unseen - G. Willow Wilson
The Rook - Daniel O'Malley
The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern
The Boneshaker - Cherie Priest
Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro

Other:
The Spellman Files (and subsequent books) - Lisa Lutz
The Borrower - Rebecca Makkai

Please help me come up with others!

There are also all those good classics, 1984, and Brave New World.

Ready Player One was SO fun. Very 80's and video-gamey. The Age of Miracles was wonderfully sweet and original, I think almost anyone would love that book.

Blindness still sits with me. I think it plays a part in why I am so picky in relationships. I want people to know they can count on me and I want to know who I can rely on too.
