I can't stop drinking Starbucks' salted caramel mochas. I'm pregnant. I'm not even supposed to be drinking coffee. I didn't even really drink it before. There's a drive-through near work. Another near my house. 4 minutes. It takes 4 minutes to drive there. I don't even need to put on pants.
Last month I took a chocolate making class at The Pantry at Delancey, site of my pretzel making class (and a Thai cooking class too, actually). We made Twix, Snickers, Peppermint Patties, Butterfingers, and Peanut Butter Cups. It involved A LOT of caramel. Now I can't stop thinking about caramel.
|Here's me working on Twix. It took a lot of will-power not to stick my entire face in the caramel.|
I've also been enjoying grilled cheeses with cheddar and apple. Toss in some bacon and ohhhhhhhmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyy...
This weekend I hit up two parties. I was the 6 month pregnant gal getting down! I love to dance; though I suspect I am way less graceful than I used to be. Both events had mad sweets. The first, a 10th Anniversary Gala for The Allen Institute for Brain Science involved mini lemon pavlovas. See here:
I love meringue. Best dessert ever. My grandmother made a lemon meringue pie like nothing you've tasted. The crust was all crunchy meringue with a lemon curd-like middle and a whipped citrus cream. These mini pavlovas brought it all back. I think I had about 20.
Also, at the aforementioned party, I hung out with James Watson, of DNA discovery. Um yeah. It was a whole lot of geeks and the celebrity frisson of excitement was running rampant. Paul Allen (it's named after him of course!) was there too with his band,The Underthinkers. We insisted old man Watson take a photo with us. And then we watched as his 86 year old self let his elderly hands wander all over his date's backside.
The second celebration was a Bar Mitzvah with only desserts. HELLO. Yes, please, sign me up. Again, meringues. This time, mint chocolate chip ones. I'VE NEVER~ But...now that we've met; I will never forget you, you sweet delicate morsels.
So yeah, what I'm saying is that I haven't been able to read much probably due to massive amounts of sugar coursing through my veins. (My big giant highway like veins, because...I'm pregnant y'all and that's what they do.)
